Betting Limits: Options in Draw Poker

In draw poker there are several popular betting limits. It could be that minimum and maximum bets are the ones settled; this is common: the first amount in the minimum and the second figure the maximum bet. So in a table with $1-$5 sign, it means the minimum bet to open is a dollar and the highest raise possible is five. This is just an example, actual casino betting ranges are much wider, tens of dollars apart.

When minimum and maximum bets are stated all players can not bet an amount less than the minimum and also no one can bet an amount larger than the maximum. The player can bet within the range of both limits. The antes are usually equal to the minimum bet.

There could be a variation of the betting limit. Often three figures are mentioned such as $10, $20 and $30 which indicates the antes and opening bets are the low amount and after the draw a bet must be either the middle to highest amount. The same holds true for any other three-figure limit, regardless of the amount.

Another bet limit method is the Jack Pot. Should all players pass on the first deal, the amount of the opening bet on the second deal can be any amount not higher than the ante already in the pot, provided the limit bet is less than the amount in the pot before the opening. Thereafter each bet after the draw can also be the amount of the possible opening bet. The dealer must announce the Jack Pot limit to the opening player and that the amount cannot be exceeded in betting except if it be lower than the maximum limit.

The fastest betting limit is the pot limit; this is another betting option. In this betting option, a player during his betting turn is allowed to bet any amount up to the total amount in the pot. This is quite a complex betting style. For example the amount of the pot is $5, the player who uncovers the pot has to bet $5; and another player cannot just raise to say $6. Since the original pot amount was $5 that should be the amount of raise. The second player who raises the $5 opening will place $15. The basis of the next raise depends on the amount of the pot, which is increasing.

Another betting option is the table stakes. Its other name is Freeze-out. Each player puts up a certain amount of money on the table but less than a minimum agreed forehand. The maximum bet has been discussed also. Player may increase or decrease the amount one has on the table only after the showdown and before the next deal.
